Title: Introduce Yourself To Us Here!
Post by: Daryl Fawcett on January 21, 2008, 02:56:20 PM
This is the place to tell us as little about yourself, or as much about yourself as your comfort zone allows. :)

Hi Daryl, thanks for having this site for discussion!

I live in Southern California and am a musician and artist among other things.  I like fellowship and interesting communications with other Christians (and Jews).

I'm especially interested in the issues with 3ABN and wish to see problems solved so that media communications with this venue can go forward for our church.

It's good to see fellow Christians finding their way to this site already.

I'm from Australia, where much of the country is experiencing floods at the moment.

Like you Brother, I am particularly concerned with the issues at 3abn. I feel that it is an issue that has the potential to divide the Church. Therefore, it is imperative that all the pertinent issues are resolved, so that the Word of God may be taken to the world, instead of hearing just more about 'the man himself', whenever one tunes into 3abn. Time is too short before Jesus comes, for media to be consumed with self-glorification. The Three Angels message NEEDS to be preached to all the world, so then the end may come. Come soon, please Lord Jesus.

Chrissie, sorry to hear about the floods--are any of them affecting your area?  (...by the way, I would actually be designated "sister" rather than brother  :)).

LOL. As soon as I hit the 'submit' button, I thought as much!

Not too affected by the floods yet but the rivers are 'coming down'. We're on high ground, but I feel so sorry for all those who have their homes inundated. Now, people have taken to shooting the snakes as they are coming down with the flood! Just as well I'm not THAT close. I lose any sense of reality when I see a snake. It's a phobia, I know but no amount of reasoning with me, will change the way I think of those slithering serpents. Reminds me of Lucifer!

Terrible for people who have their homes inundated...

Shooting snakes in the river??  That's just amazing...

Why don't you send for Danny Shelton? He must have his gun back which Linda hid from him. According to some accounts he got so angry that he divorced her for hiding his gun.

I was wondering when our retired Pastor Johann would find us here. :)

As far as the flooding in Australia goes, I saw some of it on the TV news.

The latest news is the global stock market situation.

All these things are a sign of the end.

Now, that's a brilliant idea Johann. Hadn't thought of that.

Oops! My introduction - Well, I'm and Ozzie too, where we're having really cool days when it's supposed to be summer. I won't complain about that though as I don't particularly like the 40+c that we tend to get here in summer.

Pardon the bolden text! My eyesight is not particularly good, and this makes it easier to read.

Well, howdy, folks! It seems that we've met before here and there -- like on BlackSDA.com or Maritime-SDA-Online.org.  ;D

I'm the very same "Inga" as I am on the other boards. I go by my real first name, the way it's pronounced. (It's actually spelled "Inge" but I cringe at the thought of anyone rhyming my name with "hinge."  :'()

I'm interested in seeing 3ABN truly represent what we believe as Adventists --not just in the talk but in the walk of the principals involved.

I hail from British Columbia, Canada.

Nice to see some of you folks from "down under." Maybe you beat me here because it's already "tomorrow" for you!  :D ::)

And it's good to see Gailon posting. :) And Johann! :) :)

I am a New England boy, born and bred. My vocation is FHA financing and training, my avocation has been a journalist specializing in ecclesiatical issues and SDA institutional
investigative reporting.

ANd yes, we may well be at that point that Mrs White describes quite vividly:

 "Those who hold the reins of government are not able to solve the problem of moral corruption, poverty, pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis. If men would give more heed to the teaching of God's word, they would find a solution of the problems that perplex them." {9T 13.3}

Good to catch up with you again Gailon and also Inga. Looks like we could find many friends here in the days ahead.

I had to laugh Gailon at your description of "I am a New England boy, born and bred", coz where we live is classified as the "New England Area" in Australia. Don't remember bumping into you personally though!

Hi there, All!

I'm happy to join this family.

I am reserved and generally quiet and tend to listen more than speak.

When I read some of the posts and responses I see that what I would wish to say on a topic is being so eloquently expressed by others that I figure - 'What's the use?'

It seems that I've said quite a mouthful. Better submit this before I get cold feet and ...

God Bless us all.

Well, after "introducing myself" of sorts in the "welcome" thread, I saw this one and thought that I better introduce myself in the right place! OOPS!

My name is Sonshineonme (or ssom if you like) and I am happy to be here.
I belong to other sites like BSDA and Maritime as well.

I already know many of you here, and I look forward to getting to know others I have not known before that are here as well.

I grew up in the midwest but now live on the west coast. I am an animal lover (as many of you from BSDA know already) as well as a love for the ocean.

I love Jesus first and foremost! While I disagree with many things in our "organized" church, I will still strive to serve Jesus with all my heart to the day I die. I believe that it's vital to our personal relationship with Him to make sure we are serving HIM and no other person or organization instead. Being raised in a very legalistic era of the SDA church (and yes, legalism is alive and well still) I have spent all of my adult hood sorting out the junk from the good stuff, and even learning some good stuff I never seam to be taught growing up! I praise God for never giving up on me and He still fights for me every day! I tend to be very adamant about the idea of RELATIONSHIP FIRST and works by default later! Anyone relate?!  ::)

I personally feel that God is desperately and daily trying to teach us through His word and events around us that a personal relationship with Him is all that will save us. That He wants us learn to hear His voice through all the noise of this planet, and to get it that man, the church and ministries will fail us. May we all have the needed and timely wisdom to discern His voice and calling (be it great or small) on each one of us.  I know it's no accident that we are all here, and may God and His truth and character be glorified!

God bless!!

Love you guys! ;)

Bless you, Sister  :-*

Hullo: I am Rainnpony and already see I have some things in common with SSOM. Besides an obvious love of Jesus, we both live on the WestCoast and love animals as well.  There aren't too many SDA's in my area, especially of my age group...uh, around the middle years,so I hope to learn from the members here and maybe make some new and everlasting friendships. It just dawned on me that I have never introduced myself here. I was born 75 years ago in Denmark, but when I was 5 my father was called back to his homeland, Iceland, to be the leader of literature evangelism. We were fortunate thus to avoid the throes of World War II.

After the war I traveled to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway together with three sisters. Two of these married brothers in Norway, and one is now my oldest son's mother-in-law, living in Norway. The third returned to Iceland and married my best childhood friend. I was so happy he got a good wife. . .

Later I spent a total of 7 years in the United States,  where I found my German wife, and we had our first son. The next was born in Europe (Denmark) and the third one in Africa (Nigeria). It is now 56 years since I was first employed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church which took me to six different countries where we lived, with shorter assignments to other countries. Mostly pastoral, departmental director, and teaching. (Bible - in 3 different countries).

After almost 51 years of marriage my wife succumbed to breast cancer in Norway. One of those who spoke of her gratitude to Irmgard at her funeral was Linda Shelton. She said Irmgard had remained a true friend when almost all others had forsaken her. (Linda came on a short visit to Norway from her home in Springfield, Ill.)

My childhood friend died 11 years before that. Now his widow has become my wife, and we are really enjoying our senior years together - in Iceland. Together we have 9 grown children, 20 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. From time to time we visit my wife, Ida's, three sisters in Norway where I have two sons and three grandchildren.

We enjoy worshiping our Lord and Savior together - and singing. (Still members of a concert choir - which are so abundant in Iceland.) And I still preach and teach in Sabbath School. And we enjoy memories of rich and fruitful lives, and of having helped quite a number of people finding Christ.

Iceland was designated in 2007 as the best country in the world to live in, with Norway number two. Iceland is probably the only country where phone books list people alphabetically by first names. Mine is

Thank you very much for introducing yourself and sharing your personal information Johann. Doing so helps one to become more 'real' to other members. May you and your wife enjoy many more years together, serving your Lord and Saviour, unless He comes much sooner, as many people really believe nowdays.

I'm probably biased, but I always thought that Australia was the best place in the world to live.   ;D

Been a bit busy this week so havn't had a chance to visit here since Sabbath.  Thank you both so much for your warm welcomes.  As to you, Ozzie, I am sure I would love to talk Equus with your daughter and her family, which is a most favorite subject of mine.  I really hope to be reunited in heaven with my dearest stallion, Tumbleweed, (not to mention several other precious horses), the sweetest and most beautiful horse I ever had the privelege of being owned by!!  Life has not been the same since losing him.  What joys await us there!!!

Welcome, Rainnpony. Good to have someone here who loves horses. A grandson has about 70 of them, and a ganddaughter owns one precious one called Stormur (Storm). She loves to go riding after school.

A great-grandson does not get anough riding a real horse, so he rides a stick with a horse head all over the place.

Well... you make me look bad Johann.  I too will have to get
around to intro myself also.   I have enjoyed reading your
posts here and on BSDA.    You seem to be a very honest
and straigtforward person.   Also, glad that you have
found someone to share your life with after losing your wife.
I do not know how I could handle what you have, but God
sometimes gives us strength we did not know we had.

I have also heard much abt. Norway and the life there.
Most Americans know little about (incl myself).  I have
heard it is a very progessive country and that the
economy is booming and very stable.   Also, hear it was
a good place to invest some of our retirement monies.
Feel free to PM me on that point if you care to.

Keep on posting !!!

(I will get around to it too soon)

70 horses???  That sounds like a bit of heaven on earth, Johann.  Where is he? (Your grandson, that is...) How do I get there??? Perhaps I exaggerate a wee bit.  But it does sound wonderful. Still, horses are a great responsibility. I know as we had seven at one time and they were all in stalls and that adds up to quite a bit of daily work but the love you get in return is worth it many times over. It's so nice to find this understanding here. BTW, I think you are aquainted with my Uncle Bill Mead from Hemet, CA???  I was getting aquainted with Gailon over the weekend via e-mail as we hail from the same neck of the woods here in the states. Found out I knew quite a few members of his extended family in Maine. As I said to him being an SDA can really shrink your world.  It is good to have found this site. 'Tis past my bedtime as I like to arise early so, adieu for now.

Hello All!

Just found this forum through the links over at Save3ABN.com.  Looks like the start of a great place to be, so I signed up!  I've not really had a lot of interaction or networking online with other Adventists, although I have had a website for quite a few years.

I was baptized into the church in August of 1999, after three grueling years of study, denial, and conviction.  I have been challenged on the Sabbath in a work environment, and have seen God's hand move in that type of situation.  I found my soul-mate and wife once I humbled myself to God, and she is the one who lead me to the present truth of the Adventist church.

I've been involved with Prison Ministry on both a local level and through a pen-pal program.  I've also held several church offices to include sound / media coordinator, Sabbath school teacher, head Sabbath school teacher, deacon and elder.  I've had the opportunity to preach in several churches, and even on a regular basis for a time.

I started an online ministry called Abundant Rest Ministries (plural because I had/have plans to have differing outreach programs) back in 2001 on a Yahoo! Geocities account.  A few years later I moved it on to it's own domain and started The Historic Adventist Podcast as well.

I look forward to sharing interaction here on the forums, learning about others, and sharing a common belief in the pillars of our faith.

In Christ,

Michael

I already recognize many of the names here. I don't feel like I'm among strangers.

Just saw the remark about the pet lover's forum. I have a website in which I provide a place for viewing for friends that have a small kennel.
They sell only locally, no shipping but this gives those who have a possible interest in a puppy to view first.

I posted for a while on BSDA under the name “Brick Step.”  I manage but am still behind in computer skills and will give a victory shout if this post manages to turn up in the right place, in the right way.

I was born into an SDA pastor’s home, and taught for a number of years in Adventist primary schools.  In a difficult time in the life of the church, I lost membership, in a quite publicized way, all involving much controversy.  But God always over-rules all for the good of those that love Him. I have never for five minutes stopped worshipping as a Christian and Seventh-day Adventist believer.  About 20-30 in the situation also lost membership in the end, and we all felt the need to meet separately for a few years. My husband and I are now, in better circumstances, worshipping almost weekly in Conference churches, often taking Senior SS lessons and even preaching sermons.

Through our drama, though taking strongest issue with some of the judgments of some holding office in the church, we never came to the place where we turned our backs upon the Adventist Conference Church altogether.  I feel the same way about the 3ABN debacle.  We pray daily that the court cases will go away, the bitter divisions will cease, truth will triumph, wrongs made right, and that relationships will be healed where they need to be healed.  But we see the wonderful and undoubted blessing of the overall 3ABN television and radio witness, and cannot but pray that it will be protected and enabled to continue.

God bless and guide all concerned.

We live in the country in Australia.  I may come back later and tell you some of our many snake stories.

Hello everyone, I am pretty much known as reddogs, although I use some other names. The name comes from my Chow Chows and I have a little farm out in the woods with many other animals, and I just had 4 baby goats born last night so I need to name them, any suggestions....

:welcome: reddogs. I suppose it is you training the dogs, and not the other way around? Goats are somewhat different, aren't they?

Animals can teach people a lot. I had some in my early youth. What are some of your experiences?

:welcome: Reddogs. Baby goats? We used to have a couple many years ago and they certainly got into mischief; but were ever so much fun. As for 'naming rights', it's rather early here to be thinking too much about goats names.  :DHave a great day.

This is the place to tell us as little about yourself, or as much about yourself as your comfort zone allows. :)

I met a new friend who had been involved in reading and posting in BlackSDA in the past. The friend suggested that I come to check out this site since BSDA had shut down to read only the 3ABN section.

Praise God that the end times are upon us. Even though there are serious problems within 3ABN we know that God is slowly cleaning house.

Yes, the animals sometimes do things that amaze me.... My male chow 'Simba' who I have tried to train to stay withing his fenced yard, uncharacterically got out by jumping over the fence and left the property one day, and I gave him a scolding and was very upset that he had gotten out when I noticed he was missing his collar and looked very ragged around back of his head. Well I retraced his steps and about a half mile down the dirt road came across his collar with vicious bite marks on it and signs of a terrible struggle and blood, after checking him again I was able to reconstruct what happened. A large wild animal came out of the woods to attack the bull, chickens or goats and Simba had jumped the fence to defend them, and the wild animal  had sharp claws and teeth and the only thing that saved him was his thick fur, it could not clamp down or claw through it and he came home a little worse for wear but he had done his job of defending the farm animals. Needless to say he got a nice bath and many doggie treats that night......

Hi everyone.  I have been one of those "lurking" in the background people over the last 3 years.  If a topic really pushed my buttons then I would present my small (but very important) opinion.

I have posted more this last month, on three different web sites, than I have probably written to my children in 3 years.

But the topic of Domestic Violence in the Christian church and in the SDA church has pushed my buttons.  I really do need to get a life besides these forums, and I really do have a wonderful one.  So I may be drifting in and out now and then.  I really appreciate the open-mindedness of so many people that I have come in contact with over this past month.

hi all... i'm a transplanted californian to montana. i LOVE the snow and cold and mountains! glad to see the group here from maritime and bsda. can't believe it's been a year and half since finding bsda and staying up all night reading about 3abn. i was numb for the next 4 months with grief. before reading at bsda, i had had several personal experiences with 3abn and instinctively knew something was wrong. i just didn't realize the problems were so deep and twisted. at maritime and bsda, watchbird and i have posted on the dangers of the rhema exercises by shelley quinn. since reading about the "sister wives" and "spiritual marriages" in the news this past week, i've been wondering if DS is mormon with his "spiritual adultery"... LOL!

glad to see the bravery and courage of this site to take up the fallen standard and keep marching on.

Thank you Emma for your welcome!  I am really into trying to meet some christian people. The ones I have met so far on the forums make me want to vomit! I know that there has to be something to the SDA religion that is good. I was invited here and lurked for awhile. This place seems like it can be safe. I will be testing the waters so to speak. So far though, it seems pretty nice and 'comfortable'.  The 'land down under', is that Australia? Or is that the place I just came from? :dunno:

Don't give up Lil. There is good and bad in everything. I have found many of the people here are really nice to get to know. I hope that you do feel comfortable and 'safe'. I do and enjoy AT for that reason.

I no longer participate in 'Forum-hopping'. Too much negativity and too time consuming, although there are a couple I visit intermittently. I have come across too many nasty posters and don't want my life filled with that kind of ill-feeling and negativity, as it tends to drown one in it's ugliness. Take care and enjoy AT.

Thank you Ozzie!  From everything I have heard, this is a wonderful place to be. I am sinking it in right now. I have seen some strong points being made and yet, no one reverts to name calling, no putting down of anyone, just a nice clean forum so far. I am really glad to have had friends ask me to join here. But I needed to be able to see what it was like so that I would know just what type of forum this really was. I came from (what I could feel and see) a very abusive forum. One that those little pets and if you were not one of the 'pets', you are nothing and their time was better spent not even validating a persons concerns. I see that Daryl and others do validate people here. That is what attracted me here. People seem to be just a better I would like to say bunch, but that sounds bad, I'd like to say classy, but that would not be right either. (even though it may be right) I think this will be a safe place to be. That is what I am  :praying: for it to be. Time will tell.

Hi!
Call me Sunburn. Rules said something about I should be appropriate with my name, so at the moment it is more appropriate than "Paleface" I use on another formum.  I have been enjoying BSDA for the past year and a half.

I am enjoying observing Adventtalk forum since it came into being. I do not plan on posting much. Good to see many of the BSDA family making the trip to here

I do enjoy my hubby of 45 years, two dogs, playing in my flower beds and out in the yard, walking, Bible studying research,  (gaining weight-loosing weight , and (in winter) quilting.

Sunburn

Howdy Sunburn. You've come to a gr8 place over here. The more the merrier.   :welcome:

Hi all,
I'm daylily. I'm also a member at BSDA and Maritime. I don't post often, mostly just read.  I live in the mts of SW VA. along with two of my adult children, I raise and sell daylilies for a living. Been married 36 years, have three children and no grandchildren.

I'm a serious birder, love gardening, preserving the harvest, reading, singing and playing the piano (just for my own entertainment!). I'm involved in church health ministries and often help with seminars. DH's family is musical so we often get together to sing and play for fun and sometimes for church:)

I was not raised SDA but joined later. DH was. None of my family are SDA except a third cousin whom I don't see very often.

It's nice to meet you all and to see some familiar names in this thread.

Well I can surely relate to that!  I was giving it another chance, until I came across 3ABN!!  If that is "Adventism", I might become "non-denominational"!   Welcom to AdventTalk, Lil Star!!

Hello everyone. I know a few people here like Ozzie and Bonnie. Because of what I have read here, and some people like Ozzie that I know here I decided to join here. I thought I would give adventism one more chance.

Is it the puppy who potties outside, or your son??!!!  I'm glad you are here, GRAT!!

Been here a while and decided to post as I needed the 6 to get into the 3ABN area.  Came from Black SDA where I still go as I like it there.  I am from WA state and am the "grandmother" of "Bernie" a 12 week old boxer/lab mix pound puppy.  He belongs to my son who lives with me.  He is the cutest thing in the world but needs to get that you potty outside.  I generally lurk but on occasion someone else will not say what I wanted to so I will post. Am not to internet savvy but an learning.

Actually, Scrat is an orphan gray squirrel who adopted us at a church picnic recently. We are raising him for release in a few weeks.  He looks a lot like this, actually, only gray and he doesn't run in a wheel. :hamster:

Well Snoopy, did you enjoy the beach today? I hope so. I get my sunburn which is now tan from playing in my flower beds and pulling weeds.

The weather was nice and rainy with a little snow mixed in and no tornadoes today. Several in the area recently. No one got hurt, Praise GOD.  :amen:

In order to get 'into' the other 3abn Forums, you need to be a Junior Member - that is, with at least 6 posts. Enjoy AT. I do.

We live in the country, but we have mice plagues for at least several hundred kilometres around us. Farmers are at their wits end, to know what to do next. My husband is off emptying the traps now, but PROMISE, I don't go hunting down mice - country or otherwise.  :purr:

This is the place to tell us as little about yourself, or as much about yourself as your comfort zone allows. :)

I am a retired military man, having served in the Korean War. Was born and raised an SDA, going to our schools. Left the church for several years, but came back over 20 years ago. Am an elder, teacher and Bible Study instructor for our church now. I enjoy the study of prophecy, creation vs evolution, state of the dead, and other 'hot button' issues that makes us unique in the Christian world.

I found this forum as I was searching for SDA forum sites, and thought I'd join in here.  My interests include photography and camping. I like to go out camping and LOVE to cook Big Franks over the campfire. I am not the best at photography but I am learning. Interests get harder to pursue as one gets older, but I haven't let it stop me from trying to do whatever work comes my way.  Hope to join in some good topics of interest here.

Hello to all!

Many of you will know me from other forums where I am a strong and vocal believer in traditional Adventist doctrine. That is not to say I am some legalistic, lemon-sucking stick in the mud! I have an unshakable belief in a Heavenly Father that is not out to get us, that truly loves and cares for us and wants desperately to reveal Himself to us. As you can probably tell I am a follower of the teachings of Graham Maxwell.

I have recently started a new blog, You Are Israel (http://youareisrael.blogspot.com/) that is an attempt to counter the folly and danger's of dispensationalism.

Brother RD,

Nope, haven't dropped off the face of the earth, not yet anyway! Just got tired of all the negativity of the other forum in light of the fact that neither God nor Jesus can be found there. I signed up for Advent talk back in March and kinda forgot I did until I received an e-mail from this site the other day. So I decided to drop by. And wouldn't you know it, I wound up posting a few posts!

Glad to see you here RD but I'm not surprised! If you (privately!) want to let the other's on my buddy list over there know what's up that would be great. Have them stop by my blog if they'd like: http://youareisrael.blogspot.com/

Glad to be here Daryl, thanks for having me. And yes, I am aware of the new Christians Discuss Forum, but I don't think for now I want to post over there. I'm not really looking for confrontation/debate/etc., which usually ends in playing in the sandbox as my buddy KJ would say.

I am curious of one thing however. How did that last dust-up involving me over CF go? Was I censured, banned, found incompetent to stand trial due to mental handicap or acquitted of all charges by the more reasonable and honest moderators (however few there are) over there?

I seem to remember I felt as though I was on a one-way track outta town!

:welcome: RND to Advent Talk.

I am happy to see you are now posting here. :)

Are you aware of the still new Christians Discuss Forum?

It is at http://www.christians-discuss.com/forum/index.php

Hi everyone,

i have kids and am a grandmother.

i  registered here as serendipity. That means "The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident." because i live not too far from 3ABN, and have met many of the people there, as well as being included in private e-mails by members here. This was becase i was included in email discussions, and others because they were forwarded by friends, and i was just an inocent observer.  This means i am aquainted with the people on both sides of these things. That makes me afraid of saying who i am, really. i hope that is ok here. It is very confusing.

i was registered at BSDA before. i have also been reading posts here too, but, so many are being moved to the hidden forums which friends and members know and said. This makes it is so hard to keep up with all, so i have now registered in order to read all. many others probably did this too!  i understand the forum wants members and that i understand, but other people like me need to know what is going on. This is my first post to count towards those which will lead me to read the hidden and private posts.

Can someone tell me how many more posts i need?

It is good to see and read all, but i do not think i will post more than i have to here. i hope that is ok to do. i don't want to say too much because people can attack me, and id on't want that.

i love the people and am a second generation Seventh-Day Adventist, but so much is very confusing and somuch is not understood.
Maybe i am not alone. Others feel like this?

i hope to share the love of Jesus and see that here, and share it  as other's do when i can.

Welcome, Serendipity!!  What a great name!!  I completely understand your hesitation to reveal your identity, and you don't need to!  It is very unfortunate that the 3ABN saga seems to have taken on a life of its own.

Your post here is perfectly OK, as is your desire to not say much but just read!  In order to access the additional discussion areas you need to have at least 6 posts.  It is hard to keep up - I know!!  But it will get easier as you get used to the forum.

When you feel you have something to say, be sure to say it!  Otherwise, you are welcome to simply read.  If you have issues or questions, either post them or send me (or anyone you choose!) a private message (PM) and I'll do my best to help.  I hope you find your time here a blessing!

Best regards,

Snoopy

Yes - post #2!!

I am not sure what you are hoping to learn, if you have a leaning toward a particular side of the debate or not.  But let me offer up two additional websites for you:

First is 3ABN's official website at www.3ABN.org.

Second is the site where a good deal of the evidence gathered in the case has been posted - www.save-3ABN.com.

And if you are interested in other discussions beyond the 3ABN happenings, you will find that here as well!  There are many wonderful people here, many interesting discussions, and many differing opinions!

I am glad you are here, Serendipity!!  And if you choose to respond to this post, you will be halfway to your goal!!

Blessings,

Snoopy

Welcome Serendipity.  I had to smile at the thought of you being disappointed with what you will find behind the curtain when you get your magical six posts.   ;)

I think you will find that most are careful to post their most exciting stuff in the public section.  I presume that is because they want the whole world to have access.

Enjoy your stay.

Hey all.  I found this site based on a discussion from another board, so I came over to check out what's going on here and what is being taught.  It is my prayer that all people would find their identity in Jesus Christ, the full-revelation of the Father and that they would know that their salvation is secure because of what Jesus has done for them.  God bless you all in your journey.  I look forward to viewing your posts concerning Scripture on this site.

I'm not sure that your perception is correct in saying that you are here to "check on what's going on and what's being taught". It's not a matter of what is being taught. This is a discussion group; not a doctrinal determinant.

You will find doctrinal topics down further in that particular section. We do have friends who are not SDA as members here.

Thank you for the welcome, Chrissie.

Not sure I understand what you mean.  I've been perusing the doctrinal topics and am finding that much of the 'discussion' is teaching.  That is what I came to 'check on'.  For me and many others it is completely a matter of what is being taught.  Before I would recommend someone to a site I want to know what is being taught and who is doing the teaching?  What is the gist of discussion/teaching from those who control the site?

I do know of a couple of sites that discuss SDA beliefs and some of the difficulties/problems that allow for complete open discussion on those topics.  Does this site encourage open discussions, regardless of who is teaching or of the outcome (using Scripture - of course) or is only one side of the discussion allowed while the other is banned or strongly encouraged to leave by those who are allowed to discuss/teach?

I ask only because I've been a part of many (many!) discussion boards and this one is a new one to me.  So based on the nuances of this post, would I be welcome here or run off, even though I would be only about discussing beliefs based on Scripture, not about the individuals who may or may not hold those beliefs?

Again, thanks for the welcome...but am I really welcome?

RND, you know I'm always open to 'good conversation'.  It's when power plays are made that I consider it NOT to be 'good conversation' any longer.  Nobody has a market on God, Jesus Christ, the 'church' HE started 2000 years ago (the body of Christ, made up of ALL who believe in HIM alone for salvation, where Jesus Himself is the Head), and Christianity (the label given to all who believe in HIM).  If it's truly OPEN discussion, then I'm in.  I'm not for attacking individuals, but I AM for truly OPEN and Scriptural discussion of ANY belief.  I put them all on the table a long time ago knowing the God has promised that the Holy Spirit (who is fully God and who lives IN ALL who believe in Christ) will lead us into ALL truth (Jesus Christ!).  So...if that's what this board is about, I'm in...

Yes Free, I've always known you be be open to good conversation and hopefully you can find that here. As far as any other points you've made I prefer not to comment. But, welcome none-the-less. What I think I'll do is start a discussion in the "Theology" arena with your name on it and you can pick the topic of your choice when you're ready!

Now, what would be the point of that, RND?  When Freeindeed is ready to open a discussion, don't you think he or she can do it themselves?

In Christ alone...

Hey Free,

Glad to see you here, its always good to see old friends, I know we will have some great discussions........

Hi, I'm Kitty,

I live in the US at the present time.  I have lived in several countries besides travelling and visiting in others.  I love Australia and Asia.  I am afraid of the poisonous snakes in Australia though.
In response to RND, I also appreciated Graham Maxwell during my Loma Linda years.  He taught me  a lot about God.
I am a SDA and enjoy having several church offices.
Many folk in my church are there because of 3ABN.  3abn is a good station for the most part and I want it to succeed for sure.   But the issues there are real as I have been an eyewitness to wrongs done.   But God is good and loving and can bring folk to repentance and restoration.

:australia: is a great place, but I agree with you about the snakes. I don't see many though and many people have told me that they are more frightened of me, than I am of them. I've yet to be convinced of that though!  :dunno:

:welcome: Kitty to AT.

I agree that there are many good programs being telecasted at 3ABN, therefore, I do not want to see it close down.

I also agree with you that there are serious concerns and issues there that need to be resolved, which can be discussed in the appropriate forum/s of AT.

Welcome, Jack.  Just for the record, you are entirely responsible for your "spring".  It will only be "sprung" if you are unable to post appropriately!

Welcome, Wendall!  We're glad you are here!

And you are right about the tenor of posts here.  I guess that tends to happen when the topic is as emotionally charged as is the 3ABN saga.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions!

Hello Forum Family ...

My name is 'Oh Yeah'. Admin. had some questions about this name ... so I thought I should explain here.

I believe that we as Christians  .....  we should be the happiest of all people.

I wanted a name that would express JOY.

This expression to me says that I have a DEEP Joy.  Oh Yeah. It is a strong feeling of excitement. And we as Christians SHOULD feel happy.

I hope I can contribute thoughts. Promote discussions. And spread a little JOY.

It is good to be in the company of fellow believers.

You do have an interesting username!  Thank you for taking the time to explain it!  And I think you are absolutely right!  We have such a Gift in that we know Jesus.  Sometimes I think we (I) take it for granted.  Then when I really stop to think about it, I cannot fathom how anyone can make it through this life without knowing there is something so much better for us.  Thank you for reminding me of that!!

I chose RBF for two reasons. Firstly, Righteousness by Faith is a favorite topic of mine.  Without this free gift I couldn't be here.  Secondly, a strong pet peeve of mine is people who "change names" depending on which forum they are using.  This is the initials I have used elsewhere in my limited posting in one other forum.  So RBF I am and will remain by God's grace.

I am a child of God, a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, a wife, a mother and a proud United States Citizen.  My hobbies include cooking, visitations, colporteuring, gardening, canning, sewing and having company.  Ah, never a dull moment!

"Just over the mountain in the promised land; lies a Holy City built by God's own hand."  Hope to see you there!

Praise the Lord for colpeurtors! We need more of them.

Indeed, if there were only more!

Quote from: Ellen White
The time has come when a large work should be done by the canvassers. The world is asleep, and as watchmen they are to ring the warning bell to awake the sleepers to their danger. The churches know not the time of their visitation. Often they can best learn the truth through the efforts of the canvasser. Those who go forth in the name of the Lord are His messengers to give to the multitude who are in darkness and error the glad tidings of salvation through Christ in obeying the law of God.  {MC 8.1}

I'd love to hear other experiences...

:welcome: RBF! It is good to see - get to know - people with whom one has quite a bit in common. I believe, with you, that RBF is the essence of the Advent message. Second, I am the son of a life-long colporteur, and although I have spent a life time in the ministry, I have also done colporteur work, and for a couple of years I was in charge of the colporteur work in Denmark. At that time we had some house wives going out with books, as well as some young people.

One of my favorite texts is, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
