Title: Editing of Posts Notice
Post by: Daryl Fawcett on February 26, 2008, 06:12:42 AM
This is to inform everybody that posts could be edited by the Staff of Advent Talk for the following reasons:

1 - Violation of Forum Rules.

2 - Correction of Formatting Errors that confuses the quoted portion from the new post portion within a post.

3 - Clear and obvious typing errors that may have been overlooked and not corrected by the person's post.

4 - Spelling errors will NOT be corrected unless the spelling error results in an inappropriate word that should have been corrected.

If anybody has any questions or concerns about any of the above, please feel free to discuss them here.

I am glad to see that speolling ;) edits will no longer occur and  I've noticed those notes have been removed from the posts where this was previously done.

But, I think editing people's typos, and formatting errors is also going a bit far, and that this forum (or any forum) should just limit themselves to  editing as needed in relation to forum rules and the enforcement of them.

You can always speak to the Poster and ask them to fix their own typos or quotes and such and maybe explain to them how to format the post correctly to prevent further errors in the future.

Thank you for asking for input here. :)

I am not aware that there were any editing of spelling errors done by any of us, therefore, please give me a link to one of those allegedly edited posts.

As far as editing formatting errors goes, we will continue to do that, especially where we can't see the difference between a quoted post and the person's comments in that post.  If you do not want us to do that, then I suggest you preview those type of posts for this type of error.

I love this "simple machines" system. It allows all kinds of lay-outs for the texts, like centering for titles and subtitles and many other resources.

But I noticed that there is a little problem as in some other forums that use this system -- the 8 plus ) brings an emoticon. So, that is a little annoying whenever you quote Bible texts, like John 1:18). See what happens (I meant John 1:18'). See that I added the ' to avoid the emoticon.

If you, guys, could change that it would be fine. Also in some the same problem occur when you have ] accompanied by :  Let me see if it causes problem here -- ]:

Well, none of my "predictions seem to have occurred, then the problem is not constant, I don't know. But for the 8) thing I assure you guys that happened even when I posted my first topic.

Best regards.
