Title: 2012 03 24 Physical Love in the Bible
Post by: Johann on March 17, 2012, 02:33:57 PM
As a background for this Bible study I think we need to realize that Gnostic notions of the human body being evil in itself were accepted quite early in the Christian Church. The non-Biblical idea that sex equals sin and makes the child sinful was used by Augustine of Hippo to form the doctrine justifying infant christening. This baptism was essential, according to Augustine, to cleanse the child from original sin, resulting from the sinful act of sex.

Augustine of Hippo, regarded by many as the Father of the Roman Catholic Church, claimed that husbands and wives could eliminate some of the guild by performing the sex act without experiencing any enjoyment from it.

What does our Sabbath School lesson have to say about this?
