Prayer for William Johnson
« on: October 15, 2008, 06:25:34 PM »

I just was told that Elder William Johnson was hit by a motorcycle in Manila during Annual Council (if that's what you call it). Not sure how he's doing, but it didn't sound like he wasn't hurt.

I received the following from a friend and I imagine it is OK to circulate:

Family and Friends,

Praise the Lord that it was just a broken ankle.

Not that that is fun, speaking from personal experience.

I agree on all counts Bob....more than 20 years later I still have various titanium bits in my left ankle, not that it gives me any trouble these days.   (And it does not
set off the metal detectors at airports either  :D )

Apparently Elder Johnsson is a runner.  Whether he was running or just walking when this occurred I do not know.

Had a sugar beet hit my ankle today. Wasn't fun. If there wasn't metal in there, it probably wouldn't have hurt as much.

Accidents and death is a great tragedy in this sinful world. And it did not only hit William Johnson duriing those meetings in Manila. The treasurer of the Trans European Division, Jóhann Ellert Jóhannsson, received the message at these meetings that his mother-in-law in Denmark had died, so they had to fly home to London, pick up their car there and drive to Denmark to make it for the funeral.

His sister told me this in church yesterday, where I was preaching.

Here is an email update:

Tuesday

Dr. William G. Johnsson, former editor of the Adventist Review/World, will be released from Washington Adventist Hospital this afternoon, his wife Noelene said this morning.

“Contrary to rumors, I have all of my limbs,” Johnsson said while recuperating in the hospital this morning following surgery for a broken leg just above the ankle, an injury sustained when a motorcycle struck him while he was jogging in Manila October 15.

“I want to thank everyone for their prayers and continued support,” Johnsson said, adding that he was “very appreciative” of the prompt treatment he received at Manila Adventist Hospital, where he was rushed after the accident. After staff at Manila Adventist Hospital realigned and immobilized the break, Johnsson was flown back to the United States for surgery.

Experts at Washington Adventist Hospital said the bone injuries were not as severe as initially thought. Johnsson is expected to enjoy a full recovery.

Seems like William Johnson is doing well now. At least he has written all of the Week-of-Prayer readings we are reading right now - except those for the two Sabbaths which are according to tradition written by the present General Conference President and by Ellen G. White.
