God will prepare men (leaders) for these times....
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:34:18 AM »

"He will prepare men for the times. They will be humble, God-fearing men, not conservative, not policy men; but men who have moral independence and will move forward in the fear of the Lord. They will be kind, noble, courteous; yet they will not be swayed from the right path, but will proclaim the truth in righteousness whether men will hear or whether they will forbear." - {5T 263.1}

Stan, I know you have your own forum, but nice to see you here too. I'm glad you gave us this quotation. I have used it before in these discussion, but this is something we need to heed.

It certainly is something we need to heed. And I am glad that we do have humble, God-fearing men who refuse to be swayed, and who are resisting the current rebellion, whether men will hear or whether they will forbear.

Moral independence.... not conservative.... not policy men.... Hmmmmmmm

And what does "policy men" mean?

"There are those who will suggest to you that in order to be successful in your profession you must be a policy man; you must at times depart from strict rectitude" (CT 485).

"It reveals the fact that a business man is not necessarily a scheming, policy man" (7T 248).

"Some of these have become dishonest, scheming policy men and are guilty of grave sins" (CH 329).

"There are many who would scorn the appellation of policy men, yet who will stoop to concealment, evasion, and even misrepresentation, to accomplish their purposes. He who, in a matter of right and wrong, remains noncommittal that he may retain the friendship of all; he who seeks to secure by evasion of truth what should be won by courage; he who waits for others to take the lead, when he should go forward himself, and then feels at liberty to censure their course,--all these are in God's sight numbered as deceivers" (ST 8-4-1881).

It seems apparent to me that "policy men" are what we now call politicians.

Since the pro-WO side has repeatedly resorted to misinformation, such as (a) re: the 1881 GC Session, (b) whether GC WP L 45 contains a reference to gender, (c) whether GC WP L 50 contains a reference to gender, (d) whether the 1990 GC Session voted down a WO proposal, and (e) whether the 1995 GC Session voted down a WO proposal, it seems apparent to me that the pro-WO side exhibits characteristics that Ellen White identified as belonging to policy men.

Clearly Elder Dan Jackson, Stan.

He has an uncanny ability to give a complete, impassioned presentation complete with Bible texts and probably SOP which cannot be pinned down to supporting either side.

(Too bad he didn't go into politics instead of taking a church leadership position.)

Would I get deleted over at your forum for answering your question? So long since I have been there. I can't even think of the name.

It seems to me you posted under your own name.  It has been a long time.
