This one seems a little peculiar because it takes the position that 1 Tim. 2 is talking about in the home, not in the church. Other than that, it takes about the same position that Seventh-day Adventist publications had been taking since the 1850's.
WOMEN IN CHURCH
Why does it state in 1 Corinthians 14: 34, 35, and 1 Timothy 2:10-12 that women should not teach in the church? M.V.
Many other passages of Scripture make it clear that God does not prohibit women from proclaiming the gospel in church or out of it. See Joel 2:28; Romans 16:1, 3, 4, 12; Philippians 4:3; Acts 1:14; 2:1, 4; Luke 2:37, 38; etc. 1 Corinthians 11:5 shows that women both prayed and explained the Scriptures within congregations, although they were forbidden to do so with uncovered heads. The latter restriction existed because it was the custom both among Greeks and Romans, as well as among the Jews, that no woman should be seen abroad without a veil.
Says Adam Clarke on 1 Corinthians 14:34, 35:
"All that the apostle opposes here is their questioning, finding fault, disputing, etc., in the Christian church, as the Jewish men were permitted to do in their synagogues (Luke 2:46), together with attempts to usurp authority over men by setting up their judgment in opposition to them; for the apostle has reference to acts of disobedience and arrogance of which no woman would be guilty who was under the influence of the Spirit of God."
The passage in 1 Timothy primarily refers to a woman's personal behaviour at home, as the context makes clear. Paul here warns against any feminine domineering which would involve the usurpation of authority over the husband. According to Dr. Taft, the heart of this passage should be rendered: "I suffer not a woman to teach BY usurping authority over the man."
