This is amazing!!!!!
I'm told that there is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy.25 in rural Iowa.
For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times.
A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed.
It's quite an impressive sight.
Be sure to scrolldown and check out the multiple photos.
Click on pictures for larger view
I thought the flag was draped over the rock, but it's not. It's actually painted on the rock too.

Hobie, how did you come about with your 'hobie' user name?
-
Does it really matter? I saw the other day where hobie signed up on C/A as the same one. I suppose that is who it is here as well. I hope 'hobie' enjoys his/her visit here and participates in various forums.
-
I like this rock. I think it is just awesome! I received this very same email and just did not know how to post it on the forum. HOW did you do that hobie? Seems you have some 'skills' that I need to have as well. :rabbit:

I would think my reasons are the same as for most people. A user name usually depicts the interests and lifestyle of the party chooing it. No I did not sign up on C/A.

It wasn't really skill. I just clicked on the pictures and hit save as to my picture folder. Then at the bottom of the post hit attach and picked the pictures I wanted

I am going to have to try that when I get home this evening from work. It sounds pretty easy in fact. :rabbit:
I do hope you are enjoying yourself hobie.

Yes it matters as I said in another post I couldnt get in with my normal name so signed up as 'hobie' at C/A, I used that as my secondary name if someone already has my primary taken. So over the years I am signed up in many sites and forums as 'hobie', thus my concern.......

Reddogs

If your primary name is reddogs then you have used your primary name and thus the needing to know what was behind 'hobie's' name shouldn't really matter. Maybe s/he doesn't want to reveal the reason. However, if I remember right, the reason was given as to how they came up with the name 'hobie.
Yep, I will repost what 'hobie' posted as to the reason behind the name.

To me, that should be the only reason needed. Don't you think?

It might be fun to have a whole topic as to why people chose their user name. The origins of my using hobie reflects an interest of mine. . I have many interests that I share with others as I get to know them and become friends.
I try not to be to intrusive when replying to those I have not come to know

For all the years I have been reading C/A,I don't recall a user name of reddogs. Nor did you mention you had re-registerd as hobie on C/A. The closest user name on C/A to reddogs is redwood. A man that raises red dogs and has many times posted almost verbatim your views and concerns over hearsy and gossip. But for a bit yet, redwood is not allowed to post on C/A. I would think redwood could honor his few days of "time out" by not re-registering under another name.
Perhaps over five years or so I have missed reddogs as a user name .

There is no 30 day limit on registration. Registration is free. The only limit is on private forums such as Natter Matters and that is 3.50 per month after the first thirty days

Who is 'redwood'..? ???
-
Who is 'redwood'..? ???
Impossible to say, I am not sure he always knows. I know what he presents.
He raises reddogs, the answer to everything is to forgive first, condmenation of those that may express an opinion as to wrongs being committed, aurgumentative, can never leave something best left alone. He loved to take little "snippets" of EW and use them in the worst possible light, Until finally stopped it seems. Feigning ignorance as to what he was doing. Claims to be pretty much housebound due to physical diaabilities, yet loves hiking.
I know where he lives and what his wife does for a job outside the home, but haven't a clue who he really is

What the heck! Lots of people have the same name! Don't think any name on the internet is reserved for any particular person. Some people make a fuss about nothing.
-
I have to agree, what is wrong with someone signing up as hobie? I dont see any concern to it. Everyone goes by a name. I have chosen one and have kept it to just that one because it refers to my mom and since I am her daughter, it only seems to fit that I be Lil Star of Del Star. I have no worries as to who people think I am. I am the same under any forum. If the name is taken, well, when/if I ever run into that, then it was not meant to be that I sign up. I only use the one name. That way no matter where I go, people know who I am. I shine my little light the same here as I would anywhere.

I am not sure that I see the problem. I posted a picture of what I thought was some beautiful awesome art work and a outstanding tribute to our troops. How was that pretending to be you in your mind? As for signing up on other adventist forums the problem would resolve itself. If a user name is taken your application is denied under that user name. It is possible I imagine that you hold the trademark to this name. If that is so please let me know and I will happily withdraw. From reading your previous posts and the limited number of my posts I see very little similarity.
After this, I will do my best to keep from entering topics where you have made your presence known. Keeping contact to the barest minimum or not at all should keep confusion down. You are known as reddogs here so that should prevent any conflict. You were here first and I will respect that and withdraw from any further contact with you

My brother,
I apologize for any misunderstanding, I wasnt saying that about you, just the potential of there being a problem if someone went to other Adventist websites and said 'I am Lil Star from Advent Talk' pretending to be Lil Star and starts breaking the rules and attacking the moderators etc.., so that has to be quickly checked. I post in a 'particular style' so most members I interact with know me well enough to tell if its me (no matter if I use 'hobie' or 'reddogs'......)
You have no quarrel with me my brother, and your picture is very nice...

In fact reddogs, I do not see a problem with that. As I have my own way of posting. My wording, my sentence structure, my personality will show through in my posts. If someone else wanted to say they were Lil Star then be it from me that they don't. That is their right. I have no license on the name. People will know who I am or am not by how I write or type or bring things to light or how I stand up or not stand up for things.

Who are you warning as no one is being acused of anything. This is a issue on some of the forums where users come in with what we call a 'sock puppet' (secondary log in) that has a similiar user name as someone else and try to create issues or run havoc before the mods catch on. Its a well known issue....
-
Hmmmmm, I know who and what she is saying. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. :dunno:

Well this is a big issue on some forums and mods are constantly chasing down 'sock puppets' and doing IP checks trying to see if one user is registering multiple times and changing their style to hide it...

How many mountains can be made out of one little ant hill. This started out I think with a post of a beautiful painting, nothing more, nothing less. Now we are at sock puppets that are trying to create issues and run havoc. Who started the issue and who is trying to create the havoc?? Who is pretending to be you? What problem is it causing?
Yes it matters as I said in another post I couldn't get in with my normal name so signed up as 'hobie' at C/A, I used that as my secondary name if someone already has my primary taken. So over the years I am signed up in many sites and forums as 'hobie', thus my concern.......
In reference to this later statement, when you first mentioned your problem you said nothing about signing up anywhere as Hobey. Now you make it sound as if someone took that from here and is pretending to be you.
Maybe you have used that elsewhere, so what? Do you have exclusive rights to that name? I belong to many work related forums and many times I have to adjust the spelling of my name as it is taken by another. It is my given name, I still don't own exclusive rights.
As to what you asked Lil Star if someone signed up under that. They cannot if she is already there and registered. Otherwise whoever chooses that has a perfect right to use it.
So again, who is pretending to be you? Who and think carefully is creating issues and havoc over a simple post and picture that has nothing to do with you.
Now you shift gears a bit and want to make it general "as it is a well known issue on forums"
There is one forum that has this frequently . I don't think you see the same type of controversy here, or at least has not been.
For me, I would as soon see this topic closed.Or at least somebody put a sock in this mountain building

I forget, I have run into this problem... and all I had to do was to add a couple of numbers to the end of my name. I added a zip code one time and the year of my birth another time. It can be done. It didn't bother me at all. Just figured I had a name that people liked. Figured, great minds think a like. Guess you don't think that way. :dunno: :horse:

I would be in favor of a moderator closing this topic. Such a huge, huge problem for posting of a picture is not worth it. If such can be seen as pretending it makes more sense to move on

Hobie, I would tend to agree with you. A rock was posted here and then the thread got hijacked by someone wanting his 'other' name not to be used. I guess s/he should have used this other name to begin with. Makes no sense to me why someone would be sooo bothered by another person using your name. I am sorry this has caused such a commotion with your name hobie.
The picture was wonderful! I received one like it in my email the other day. IF I had known how to post it here I would have. Then maybe it would have been no problem for reddogs...(I keep wanting to put redwood for some reason, when that happens it is usually because that is the way it is supposed to be)
He would not have jumped all over your case. For that I am sorry. Please do not think that everyone on this forum is like that. I have found no one to be that way to anyone until now.
Please admin, think we could close this thread as hobie has asked???

It may be possible that you have forgotten what you posted, however your mountain stands.
Maybe someone needs to pm hobie and let him/her know that the topic starter can close a thread. That way the problem of the "simple question" can be brought to an end.

I will do just that. I will ask that hobie lock the thread. I will let him know that he can do it himself. I forgot you could do that here. I forgot that Daryl thinks/knows most of us are adults.

I understand now that I can close this myself. My issue was I thought this to be a beautiful tribute to our troops. One of which is a very close family member, having served two tours of duty in Iraq during the worst of the fighting. What was about them has become a rather tasteless discourse concerning the concerns of one man about himself.
Maybe it is possible for someone else to post this in recognition of a fabulously talented artist and his recognition of the sacrifice of many wonderful men and women.
