Patriarch Kirill has made a statement on the weekly Sabbath rest
« on: February 06, 2012, 06:53:22 PM »

An interesting Dec. 20, 2012 article in Russian can be seen at http://www.cnlnews.tv/2011/12/20/saturday/. A version with perhaps a little more can be seen at http://www.promes.org/s38/8547.html. Below is a translation of the latter:

Patriarch Kirill has made a statement on the weekly Sabbath rest

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill made an important statement for the entire Christian world. At that time, many Protestant leaders proclaim the absurd heresy to abolish the Ten Commandments of God, Patriarch pointed to the need for human in the weekly rest, proper and what is given to God on the Sabbath day.

Everyone knows the Fourth Commandment of God of the Weekly alone - “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” But the debate around it is centuries old. Do I need to man the weekly Sabbath rest? What is the day God blessed and commanded to remember - the Sabbath or Lord’s day? It remains in force if this is the commandment in the twenty-first century?

First of all, the commandment of weekly rest, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy” - this is one of the ten commandments of God, the same as “Do not commit adultery,” “Thou shalt not steal,” “Honor thy father and thy mother.” Ignoring the weekly Sabbath rest will necessarily lead to undesirable consequences - loss of health and unscheduled visits to the hospital. Is not it better to follow God’s advice on the allocation of work and rest and to remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy?

For Christians, it is important to remember that the Lord is celebrated as usual on Saturday (Luke 4:16), and taught that the commandment of God is superior to the tradition of men (Matthew 15:3). It is remarkable that the modern “western” tradition says legalism to keep the commandments of God, then, as Scripture calls a violation of the commandments of lawlessness. The Son of God said that he came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill and magnify it (Matthew 5:17-18; Isaiah 42:21). The apostles, too, as usual, celebrated the Sabbath (Acts 16:13). Biblical sign of the saints belonging to the Church of God is faith in Jesus Christ and the observance of all the ten commandments of God (Rev. 12:17, 14:12).

Second, God commanded the Sabbath day holy, not Sunday. Theologians know that in Scripture there is no indication of God’s holy Resurrection, the first day of the week. Why is the first day? All four Gospels tell us about the fact that Christ was resurrected on the first day of the week is Sunday. And God blessed (from the Greek. “Separated”) for the seventh day of weekly rest (Genesis 2:2,3). So relax on a Sunday is possible, as in every other day, but hallow Sunday (considered a sin to do routine work that day) not only makes no sense due to the lack of biblical evidence, but is also a violation of the fourth commandment of God.

Finally, with respect to the ten commandments of God, the Bible says specifically - their sin is known (Romans 3:20, 7:7). This means that we sin, if refusing to comply. And not just a matter of adultery or theft, but also our relationship to the Sabbath day - whether we remember it, or we will ignore the commandment of God, and subsequently their health?

The Patriarch and Metropolitan of Moscow and all the Russias is also know as "the tobacco Metropolitan." 1.4 billion dollars of profit to him personally from black market profiteering. not bad for a priest.

I have been informed by someone who knows Russian that Patriarch Kirill may not have come out so strongly in favor of the Sabbath as the article suggests. There is a YouTube video of him in an interview making some comments, but those comments don't go as far as the article does.
