There are many things that Adventist members and your local church can do for others, you dont have to travel oversees to look for those needing help as you can find many just around the corner. In this case, our church has a history of going the extra mile, sometimes a bit more to help others.

Every year, some of the members of our church are active in helping others in one way or another, you may find a few skilled workers in the group such as plumbers and carpenters but for the most part they are just regular members helping others...

"...Eight missionaries of Naples Seventh-day Adventist Church recently traveled to an indigenous community in Nicaragua to assist in what natives called a “big breeze.”

Missionaries with ACTS (Active Community Team Services) World Relief, a Christian nonprofit organization, discovered the destruction left in Nicaragua by Hurricane Felix, a Category 5 hurricane, last September. The Naples group traveled at the end of March through April 5.

Hurricane Felix’s 160 mph winds demolished more than 92,000 homes and crops, which supply their income and food...."

There is a never ending list for those that feel inclined to help others.
Most are one on one. One person seeing a need and doing what they can.
An elderly woman in our church supplied an entire orphange in Korea with hats, scarves, mittins and heavy knit socks every winter. Being home most of the time she knit pretty much non-stop. Other members of the church supplied much of the yarn. Watching garage sales and picking it up for pennies. One year there were 80 children.

One woman shops the sale day at goodwill. Many stores now donate many new items of clothing. Going on senior discount day and same sale day, she can clothe several of "her grandchildren" for 50.00 or less.

Another buys her groceries on the days there is 2 for 1 or much reduced sale. The extra goes to the food shelf.

Close to me are two women that purchase fabric scraps and make quilts for the homeless and women's shelter's.

Some others provide free babysitting for young single moms struggling to do it on their own.

Some of this might benefit Polly's Place, depending on what their needs are in the shelter they provide for abused women with their children. Many come with nothing

Beware of those that verbally try to convince you they are Christian. Check your back pocket and make sure your wallet is still there. Next check your reputation to see if it is still intact. Chances are, one or both will be missing
