Kennedy hospitalized after seizure; not a stroke

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the lone surviving son in a famed political family, suffered a seizure at his Cape Cod home on Saturday morning but was recovering well enough by afternoon to watch a Red Sox game from his hospital room.

The 76-year-old Kennedy did not suffer a stroke, as was first feared, and doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital said he is not in any immediate danger.

I heard this on the news today.
Something had to cause the seizure.
I am not a fan of him, but I wish him good health and hopefully they will find what caused it before something more serious happens.

They diagnosed my husband's first two strokes as seizures at first. Paramedics and GP both said stroke, specialist insisted it was seizure and tried to get him to treat with depakote.
I was certain he had a stroke both times and am glad we didn't start on depakote

Since Mr Kennedy has had a serious problem with chronic alcoholism I would suspect that the seizure has a probable ETOH etiology.

Personally, I find him a dispicable example of morality and society and a prime example of how money and connections can eliminate accountability ie: Chappaquiddick.

Does that mean we shouldn't pray for him and his family? G.A.J. are you familiar with these verses?

Luke 18:10      Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. Luke 18:11      The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican (or politician Ted Kennedy). Luke 18:12      I fast twice in the week (go to church every Sabbath!), I give tithes of all that I possess. Luke 18:13      And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. Luke 18:14      I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Pardon my ignorance, but how does this biblical citation apply???

It is the wrong category for prayer requests.

I made a clear observation regaring his lack of Integrity, Moral standards and accountability.

And when it comes to PRIDE...there is none more arrogant than Theodore "Teddy" Kennedy...so again, what is the application, other than carefully veiled political support for this miscreant of contemporary secular society?

I guess I was asking what makes you any better than Ted Kennedy? BTW, I've never voted for a Demopublican before. Ted Kennedy has a better chance of finding the Golden Fleece than me ever supporting him politically. Jesus never said to pray for just those you support politically.

It is not a question of better or worse, but rather that he is purportedly a public servant and a model for citizenship and social conduct. Not to mention a lawmaker who ignores the law on a regular basis. And what makes him any better than the rest of us? His money, his position or his persona?

In fact, he is anything other than a public SERVANT, clearly not a model citizen and his social conduct is reprehensible. Not to mention he left a woman to die in the Chappaquidick channel AND RAN!!! That is a felony that he simply walked away from. Then there is the marriage issues, and we could go one. Any day we will wake up and find he was skinny dipping in the Potomac.

Just very hard to ignore this spoiled child and the life he has modelled for us and explains what is so wrong with secular progressive society.

The last man I voted for was Ross Perot...tell you where I am coming from?

Admittedly, prior to that I was a CARD CARRYING Jerry Ford Republican and very proud of it. Even ran a  campaign or three and learned ALL the DIRTY Tricks. One day I woke up and realized we were all headed for HADES and I was a part of the problem not a solution.

And yes, I still have disdain for politico's on all sides as I watch them meander and shuffle, weary of the world discovering just who they really are.

Ford was the last of the real deals!!! Everyone that runs these days has a full committee of marketing "handlers" to prim and polish and remake the candidate like a chameleon to fit the environment of the moment. Then there is the constant need for good intelligence and the use of fair grand dames to listen,
to connect and to get the dope. Not to mention the masters of electronic warfare that can pick up the statements of candidates and their handlers miles away
in a throng of thousands, eaves dropping for the slightest hint of an opening or impropriety to take advantage of. Then there are the Strategists that rewrite the playbook every moment of every working day in an effort to move the electoral vote just one vote closer to the finish line, in your candidates column. And don't forget the delegated watchman to keep the candidate "in line" even in those very private moments that he not "screw up" and avoid the Hart Syndrome.

No, candidates are no longer the real deal, they are well healed and well manicured actors that are the closest you can come to being able to "fool ALL the people, ALL the time". They have no real integrity, no real morality, no real persona, just what the "handlers" want you to see every moment of every day.

C'est la vie!!! It is about power and money...their power, our money!!!

Have you looked in a mirror lately? I'm wondering what makes your life so much better than his? Yes, TK left a woman to die in Chappaquiddick. Have you ever been angry at your brother or lusted after another woman?

"Have you looked in a mirror lately?" -RND
Yes, this very morning...and I definitely do not look like Teddy Kennedy!!! He may have cause to be insulted, by the way!!! Nor have I ever left anyone, let alone a woman, behind and in danger. And then run from the scene to let my connections clear up the mess. Not real leadership, now is it? That is a serious character flaw...and if you do not recognize it, then God save us from your world.

"I'm wondering what makes your life so much better than his? "-RND
With $64Million in assets, inherited of course, my guess is that his life is MUCH better than mine. But with leadership comes responsibility and with public service comes an expectation of higher standards and accountability, qualities Teddy Kennedy has abhorred.

"Have you ever been angry at your brother or lusted after another woman?"-RND
My brother died at the ripe old age of 21 and just never had opportunity to be angry. As to lusting after other women, sorry, just never had time for that...one was a handful and we have been married for thirty five years and is the only woman I have ever known in the biblical sense...Period!!!

The point is that I have not opted to take a leadership role in the national body politic and those that do should take the role seriously, not like some spoiled french royalty worthy of the guillotine. Those that don't take the role seriously should RESIGN and find another role.

You see, hypocracy is hypocracy, and to want to bill your mother's estate for 50% of the hard earned gain while Teddy picked up his fortune with a modest 6/10ths of one percent to inheritance tax. What is good for the goose is always good for the gander and if you have a charity you want me to contribute to, try giving from your own pocket first, then ASK me, don't TAX me!!!

I am replying to the original point of this thread, not the later interchange.

Senator Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, which was the cause of the seizure.

When I think of his name, I think of the things he did in his earlier years, as mentioned above.  Has there been a different Senator Kennedy in recent years?  I heard him on radio commentary here described as one of the more effective senators in the US.

I hate to see anyone go thru that. I nursed my mother thru same till her death and it is not fun.
I think change IMO can only come about with recognition of what you have done wrong and take resposibility for it

You are going to drag this discussion into a political discussion of the policies and conduct of this man during 30 plus years of public service and a discussion of his continuously problematic personal life to the present period. My point is simply that he is not an example I would revere and I would hope any christian would find much of his conduct less than the example we expect of public servants.

It would appear that RND has taken this very personally, and we leave it there. I am certainly not the person willing to extole the plusses and minuses of one party and it's candidates versus the other. In fact, after having worked on the "inside" of campaigns, I can declare I view the choices as the lesser of Two Evils. I am not registered nor have I voted in nearly twenty years. These are battles for power and ego and really will not make a difference in the long run. And they are supported by money interests determined to secure and preserve their financial interests. One day very soon it will all be for not!!!

With a malignant brain tumor, I would assume we will now see a substantially different Teddy Kennedy and would trust that he spends a few DAYS in the confessional. Maybe, his conversion, assuming it happens, will lead a few others to self-examine and turn the corner.

For me, the demise of Lee Atwater and his horrendous misconduct, supported by his deathbed testimonial, (hardly describable as a "confession" in his final hours) was a rude awakening of just how far from the moral code he had gone and how un-repentant he was as he most certainly faced His creator. And this, the man who reached out to the Moral Majority to support his candidates based upon their moral standards. He proved unequivically that he had no moral compass and no moral standards and even broke civil code in those very final moments, as he tried to take away the legacy that his wife and family deserved and give to an interloper. A sad end to a rapacious life.

I compare these men against Dr. Esposito who took the pulpit before his final hours and confessed all and called all to the same experience. It was quite a dichotomy. Very moving and very heart rending.

Let us pray that Theodore "Teddy" Kennedy will come to the same experience or he will be leading an army post millenium on the outside looking in.

The prognosis is not good, it is one of the worst types of cancers, a malignant glioma — which is considered incurable, and because of his age they cannot operate, and nearly half of those with this cancer die within a few months..

This isn't the time to post about his failures, but rather is a time to pray for him. :praying:
